"THIS IS YOUR MOTHER" Jh 19,26-27

  1. FAUSTI - The Mother, with her companions, represents whoever gives love. This is first of all the Father towards the Son, then God towards the universe, the Son towards the brothers and sisters, Jesus towards the disciple, Israel towards the Church, and so on to the smallest of creatures: whoever receives love is the image of the Son, loved Love. But of given love one dies and of received love one suffocates: one lives only when the loving love is loved and the loved love is in turn loving.
    This reciprocal love that "circulates" between Father and Son is the Holy Spirit, the dance of God and the life of what exists. Jesus, beloved love, is loving of the Father and of the brethren: He has the fullness of the Spirit.
    Now that He is leaving, for those who love Him and for those who are loved by Him, it is the hour of separation.
    That is why, before leaving, He takes care of them.
    Entrusting the disciple to the Mother, the Mother has whom she loves and the disciple the one who loves Him;
    entrusting the Mother to the disciple, the Mother has one who loves her and the disciple has one who loves him.
    This is how He accomplishes His Son's work. He communicates to the brethren His Spirit, Loving and Loved Love, perfectly matched.
    On a specific symbolic level, Mary of Nazareth, called woman, is the bride, the Israel who awaits the Bridegroom. Now that He has come, she becomes Mother and generates the new Man, the Messianic people, the Church. Furthermore, Mary, as Mother of the Son and of His brethren, is a sign of the unity achieved by the cross,
    embracing together the people of the old and new Alliance, open to all.
    Finally, as a woman, she is the Bride, the daughter of Zion, the people of the promise that awaits his Lord. Now that He has come, The messianic people is begetting for Him.
    In conclusion, we can say that Mary, as well as being a universal figure of the one who loves, - correlative to the disciple, person who is loved - , represents Israel, woman/wife of the Lord, who becomes Mother of the Messiah and of His people. She is both the fulfilment of Israel and the beginning of the Church.
    Israel recognizes the Church as its daughter and the Church recognizes Israel as the mother.
    There is continuity and unity between Old and New Covenant as between Mother and Son: they are "one" in mutual love.
