FAUSTI - Before Jesus asked, now He wants what He asks: He wants the will of the Father to be fulfilled, "as in heaven, so on earth". His food as Son is to do His will (4:34). He gives His life to whoever He wants, and His will is the same as that of the Father who sent Him to save the world (3:16). This will of the Father and of the Son is their mutual Love, the Spirit that the Son communicates to brothers and sisters. It now enlivens our history of curse and sin, bringing it effectively to reconciliation: it makes us move from division to communion of love. The "where" of Jesus is the Father, in Him He dwells, from Him comes, to Him goes, in Him and of Him lives. As God asked the first man: "Where are you?" so the first disciples asked Jesus: "Where are you staying?" (1,38). The Gospel account has shown us "where" Jesus is at home: in the Love of the Father, which He opens to His brethren. Here, too we find our home as children of the Father and brothers among us. It is the homeland from which Adam fled, abandoning his natural place. Far from it, man is far from himself, out of his place, he is a displaced person, extraneous to himself and to everything. Alongside Him, like His companions on Golgotha, we participate to His triumph. Our being near the Father takes place in our communion with the Son. In His company, we also find our place of origin: the exile ends and we reign with Him. We enter God's family, but no longer as slaves, but as free children in the Son. This is the eternal life that we already obtain now, in our earthly condition, like Jesus in His flesh, we live the heavenly life. Not only are we called children of God, but we really are, even if in a still veiled way (1Gv 3.1). This present vision does not exclude the future one, which of it will be fully revealed. Death itself is now "insubstantial" as death: it becomes the labour of childbirth. In fact, the knowledge of the Father overcomes sin, the sting of death, which poisons our existence (1 Cor 15:56). Our life is no longer for death, but is a passage from this world to the Father, a coming to light in our condition as children. Placed beside Jesus we are His companions: dead and risen with Him, we walk in a new life (Rom 6:4 - Col 2:12). We are even seated at the right hand of God (Eph 2:6), our life is already hidden with Christ in God. (Col 3:3). Already on this earth it is given to us to contemplate the glory of Love, but as in a mirror (1 Cor 13:12). But when Christ, our Life, is revealed, we too will be manifested with Him in glory (Col 3:4) and we will see Him face to face as He is. Then our transformation, already underway, will be completed. The Father has given Christ the Glory of the Son, just as He has given Him the crown of brothers and sisters: the glory "that You have given to me" is revealed in those "that You have given to me" and that are " beside me ". "where am I". To know the Love of the Father is to find one's own identity as children, to have authentic life. Jesus reveals to us that it is also given to each of us. In fact, He has just told the Father about us: "You loved them as You loved me (23b)". Whoever does not know the Father cannot feel like a child: he is deprived of what constitutes him as such. "Before" the foundation of the world means before the time: The Father has always loved the Son and so us too . His Love, which is before, is also during and besides all time (Sl 117): is the very foundation of creation, its beginning and its end. Before, the Father was called Holy, because He keeps us in holiness, in the Love that makes us "one" with Him and among us. Now He is called Just, because He justifies us, making us just as He is just. Justice calls for judgment. The righteous Father exercises His justice by loving His children unconditionally.
-->This justice is revealed in the Son's "judgment" equal to the Father. The cross, where, giving His life for the brothers who kill Him, reveals the Glory of Love . Whoever saw me saw the Father" (14:9). "He who has seen me has seen the Father" (14:9). The Son, by making us known God through His Name as Father, gives us eternal life, our truth as children. Jesus glorified the Father with what He said and did. He will shortly glorify Him to the extreme with what they do to Him on the cross. There the Father will be fully known in the perfect Love of the Son, who will give us His Spirit. The meaning of history is the unstoppable revelation of the love that has been made visible in the flesh of the crucified Son. Those who first recognized and believed in Him in the love that God has for us (1 Jn 4:16), will testify this to all, so that they may share in their joy. Knowing the Father is Life for every son.
