The disciples are hated in the same way as Jesus, because He is not from the world, but from the Father, and He tells the truth. Whoever is from the world has another father: the devil, a murderer and a liar from the beginning. The joy that the disciples have is that of the Son, who is not "from" the world, but "from" the Father, who never leaves Him alone (16:32). Even in afflictions He always enjoys His consolation (2 Cor 1:3-7). The disciples must remain in the world, without being of the world. Thus they can continue His mission, for the salvation of the world. They are in the flesh, but they do not live on the flesh. They live in this world and in this flesh as children of the light. In this way He preserves them from the evil one, the devil who divides them from the Father and from their brothers and sisters, to imprison them in darkness, loneliness and sadness. But they are not "from" the world, they are the property of God, they belong to the Father as sons, to the Son as brothers.
