THE RETURN OF JESUS JH 16,16-23

  1. FAUSTI: There is some time before the disciples do not see Jesus anymore. ...two days of anguish will pass. The first is that in which they still see Him in the flesh, on the way to the cross.
It is the "little" time of Good Friday. Time for us of the eclipse and of God's silence that reveals itself in His mystery.
The second is that in which they will not see him, because he will lie in the tomb: it is the "little" time of Holy Saturday.
The time of the absence of God, which makes itself present from the roots of nothingness.
In the first they see Him raised from the ground; in the second they do not see Him, because He is under the ground.
They are two days of tribulation and weeping: one of bewilderment for what happens, the other of anguish for what has happened.
These are the two times in which the destiny of the Son of Man is fulfilled, which every man will cross on his way from "this world" to the Father, to reach complete joy.
These two times, even though they are a brief prelude to a third time of endless glory, are a single, interminable time for those who live them: "A little and you will see me" But, in the encounter with the Risen One, pain, fear, disappointment, will melt into joy, trust, hope.the world will feel it has overcome, darkness will think it has captured the light.
While the world will no longer see it, the disciples will see it, "because I live and you will live" Jesus said.
When they seize the cross as the glory of the Son who has returned to the Father, then it will not be a cause of sadness, but of joy. It will not be the end of everything, but the source of new life in love. The joy that comes from the cross is invincible: it is love and life that overcomes hatred and death itself.
"That day" will be the birth of the new man, in a life that always lasts.
It is the definitive day, the day of the Lord.
Then the silence of God becomes "the Word". Time of misunderstanding and sadness turns into understanding and joy.

  2. A. Fontana "Emmaus, God's Road" - The God who came down on the roads of men, scented with myrrh and frankincense, ...one day "became incarnate and pitched his tent among us" (Jn. 1:14).
For God so loved the world that He sent His Son to save it, like a good Samaritan, bent over the wounded on the roadsides of the five continents. And He cares for them, without asking for either a co-pay or a health card, He loads them on His divinity and brings them to safety.
This is the God in whom we believe. "Behold, He stands at the door and knocks. If anyone opens it,He will come and dine with him and sit by him..."(Rev. 3:20)...
"In this lies love : it was not we who loved God, but it is He who loved us..." (1 John 4:0): the Lord on the roads traveled adapts and grapples to make us understand things and save us. Who knows if this is not the very vocation: God reaches out to us, boarding us on the winding road we have chosen.
Who knows if this is not the story of humanity : God vigilant over the steps we take to lead us back to the inn of fraternity. Who knows if this is not our mission to arrive at the end, somehow, and realize that God has always been with us and has never abandoned us even when, disoriented, we thought we had lost him. In the darkness of the jungle. In the darkness of life. In the darkness of the night...
